Medical Train

The first medical trains appeared in Russia at the end of the 19th century. 

Nowadays, 5 medical trains (mobile consultative and diagnostic centers) are operating on the Russian territory, providing medical service to people living in remote areas. 

The medical train «Doctor Voyno-Yasnetsky – Saint Luka» is working in Siberia since 2007, covering the Krasnoyarsk Krai, Kemerovo and Irkutsk oblast, and the Republic of Khakassia.The train can operates due to the initiative of the Russian Railways and the Government of Krasnoyarsk Krai.

Over a year, the train carries out 10 missions, passing through over 70 settlements on the road and travelling more than 10 000 km. Wagons are converted into medical and diagnostic rooms. 17 doctors from different specializations are providing medical check up to 150 visitors per day. Medical trains are equipped with a computer network, making datas and examination results immediately available in an united information system linked to each doctor. Moreover, through telemedicine equipment installed in the train, online consultations with Russia leading clinics for complex cases are made possible. 

Access to such medical service is open and free for everybody.

Since 2009, a church-wagon dedicated to Saint Olga has operated in the train providing people with Orthodox services.
