Volga Cascade Gateway

It took half a century to build eight hydroelectric stations on the Volga, Russia’s most important water artery. This cascade is considered the largest complex of hydraulic structures in Europe: it includes not only dams, hydroelectric power stations and reservoirs, but also locks, without which navigation along the Volga would be impossible.
